bar area

We have two small but charming bars at The Church Street Townhouse – the Library Bar and the Blue Bar.

The Library is a cosy, beamed room with squishy sofas, bookshelves, oil paintings and a hint of leopardskin!

The Blue Bar is lighter and airier with a beautiful pewter bar top and views across the street to the ancient black & white half timbered buildings the area is famous for.

The piano in the Blue Bar is played every weekday at 5.30pm for an hour or so, to entertain the local after-work crowd as they rub shoulders with the pre-theatre diners. Our pianists are all music students from the King Edward VI School opposite our hotel which was the school that William Shakespeare attended.

Guests are welcome to dine from any menu in either of the bars – The Church Street Townhouse is all about putting the customer first and we want you to dine where you feel most comfortable. If you just fancy a bar snack then you are in luck – we serve a selection of tasty bites from the kitchen, warm pies (3 bites big!) or a simple range of crisps and nuts. We have an excellent choice of wines and sparklers by the glass plus well-kept ales, lagers and interesting soft drinks.

Every Friday at 5pm, we host our now-famous CHAMPAGNE HAPPY HOUR. It gets the weekend off to the right start but with house champagne at only £20 a bottle, get here early if you want a seat!
